Why Work with Boon?: Because we do things differently
Why Boon? Because we do things differently
Designing your own workplace is something many people dream of, but for Mary Wiegand, the founder of Boon LLC, it was a must-have. After the birth of her second child in 2017, she was faced with a challenge that is all too familiar to many women: how to juggle the demands of a traditional 9-to-5 with a need to be present for her family.
It was scary and it was a risk, but Mary knew the solution was striking out on her own.
But Mary didn’t want her sales and inventory planning business to be yet-another consultancy. She knew that in order to create the change she craved, she needed to fix the workplace challenge she had herself faced. That’s why to this day, Boon serves dual purposes: to offer stellar merchandise-planning services to its clients and foster a work-life balance for every member of the Boon team.
In the early days of Boon LLC, Mary was a soloprenuer. She started with just a handful of clients - connections in the retail industry - and structured her work day around naptime and playtime with her children. She devoted time to both her clients and her growing family.
Not Your Average Consultant…
Unlike typical agencies that merely provide outputs, Boon’s sales-planning approach doesn’t just involve identifying issues but actively revamping processes and creating accurate plans with your internal team. Our hands-on demand-planning strategy means that clients can spend less time digging into the details of inventory planning and more time seeing real results.
Boon’s team members are matched to clients based on a combination of their expertise and availability. Directors on our team interface directly with clients to understand their needs, then coordinate with other team members to ensure that every aspect of the project and all viewpoints are covered. This collaborative approach means clients benefit from the collective wisdom of our team, not just a single point of contact.
Her clients were so satisfied with the results they experienced they frequently recommended Boon to colleagues in the retail industry. Shortly after Boon’s founding in 2017, Mary needed to add more members to the Boon team.
Empowering Our Team and Our Clients
At Boon, we practice what we preach. Our flexible work structure allows team members to thrive in both their personal and professional lives. We don’t adhere to a strict 9-to-5 schedule or require a daily commute. Instead, we support our team’s diverse needs, from family commitments to personal projects. This flexibility is not only a perk but a core value that drives our motivation and commitment to delivering exceptional results.
Our team currently consists of 15 women, and 2 men that all work part-time and take on as many projects as fits their schedule and their multi-passionate lives. We’re proud to say we have a baker, a photographer, a group fitness instructor, a podcaster, a vacation rental owner, a pilot, and a college admissions specialist on our team. We also have a total of 38 kids, and 3 of the moms on our team have twins that are part of the Boon family! The Boon team's reach has even extended across the pond as one of our first team members and her family moved to Switzerland for a temporary assignment to nurture her husband’s career. We live in 6 states, and 2 countries across 4 different time zones and vary our work schedules based on our needs. Some start work early and end early, some of us start after dinner and work late, some of us work every day and some of us work specific days of the week. The business model Mary has created us truly showcases what it means to support your team. The flexibility empowers us to nurture our lives outside of work without compromising on results for our clients.
Allie Dahlseng and Michelle Stitch were the first two members of the Boon team. Similar to Mary, both had doubts about striking a balance between professional lives and motherhood. The business structure of Boon allowed them to create just the right work/life coexistence. Almost 6 years later, they’re still part of team Boon!
Check out this story from Boon consultant Huda Shaikh
I started my retail planning career 16 years ago working at several large retailers including Macys & Victoria's Secret. In 2018, I decided to take a break from my career and pursue motherhood full time. Although I love being a full-time caregiver to my two sons, I truly missed working -- analyzing data, managing inventory, and contributing to business solutions. I wanted to return to the workforce as my children were becoming more independent, but I still wasn’t ready to commit to 40+ hour work weeks in addition to long commutes. I knew I needed to find a job where I could balance home life and work easily. It seemed almost impossible. Enter Boon! I was fortunate to reconnect with Mary, who I worked with in the past, and she told me about her company, Boon. It’s a company founded and run by moms who I can relate to and who understand my lifestyle. They pride themselves in creating a team who prioritizes flexibility to allow moms to better achieve a work life balance. Boon was exactly what I had been looking for. I am able to do what I enjoy, while working remotely and choosing the hours that work best for my schedule. I am so excited to be a part of this team!
And this quote from Boon Senior Consultant, Katie Bruns
“It has been absolutely refreshing stepping away from corporate life and into Boon! The Boon business model is simply amazing. I’m able to provide services for our clients while still feeling present in family life and watching my boys grow. The amount of stress that working for Boon has lifted from my shoulders is immeasurable!”
Our culture is centered around collaboration, innovation, and a non-hierarchical approach. We believe in celebrating community and lifting up new leaders, ensuring that both our clients and our team members feel supported and valued. This diversity of professional and personal experience enriches our approach, allowing us to offer unique perspectives and solutions—especially to clients who struggle to balance their own work and personal lives.
Why Partner with Boon?
Working with us means more than just gaining a strategic advantage for your business. It’s an opportunity to support a forward-thinking company that values both its clients and its team members. When you work with Boon, you benefit from the collective expertise of our entire staff. With over 150 years of combined experience, our team brings a wealth of knowledge to your use case from various industries. Unlike if you have a single internal planner who comes at problems from a particular viewpoint, our clients have access to a diverse set of skills and insights, meaning you get tailored solutions that go beyond one-size-fits-all approaches. Our innovative approach to inventory management ensures that your business can thrive while we handle the complexities of merchandise planning.
At Boon, we’re not just about demand planning—we’re about making meaningful connections nd creating a positive impact on both our clients and our team. In an industry that relies heavily on technology to solve its problems, we believe in a balanced approach. Software and AI can certainly enhance efficiency, but they’re not infallible or all-knowing. The guidance from technology is only as good as the data entered and the team interpreting that data, and AI often lacks the nuanced understanding of human context. By choosing to work with Boon, you’re investing in a service that aligns with your values and supports your growth while fostering a work environment that encourages and empowers women.
So, if you’re looking for a partner that delivers results and genuinely cares—we’ve got you. Let’s elevate your sales planning and take your business to the next level together!
